Abstract

Ondervoeding is een risicofactor voor postoperatieve morbiditeit en sterfte. Een preoperatieve goede voedingstoestand en een optimale voeding gedurende de opname lijken derhalve belangrijke factoren in de behandeling van de chirurgische patiënt. Een slechte preoperatieve voedingstoestand leidt tot toename van morbiditeit, mortaliteit, hogere kosten en langere ziekenhuisopnameduur van de patiënt die geopereerd wordt. Rondom de operatie is een zo kort mogelijke periode van nuchter zijn en het zo snel mogelijk kunnen herstarten van voeding belangrijk voor het behoud van de voedingstoestand. Dit hoofdstuk is geschreven op basis van de informatie uit de CBO-richtlijn Perioperatief voedingsbeleid, 2007.
