Partnergeweld: (h)erkennen door de bedrijfsarts en de verzekeringsarts

Samenvatting

Partnergeweld wordt omschreven als ‘geweld eenzijdig uitgeoefend door een partner in een intieme relatie en bestaat uit lichamelijk, geestelijk of seksuele mishandeling’.1 Partnergeweld leidt tot diverse medische problemen en kan verzuim en werkverlies tot gevolg hebben. Bedrijfsarts, verzekeringsarts en andere arboprofessionals raken steeds meer doordrongen van de vergaande gevolgen die dit heeft voor het individu, de werkgever en de samenleving als geheel. Het diagnostisch proces in geval van (dreigend) verzuim is complex en vereist specifieke kennis en vaardigheden. Samenwerking met de huisarts en afstemming van het beleid met andere professionals en instanties betrokken bij de opvang en begeleiding van slachtoffers en daders is van groot belang. In dit artikel worden handvatten geboden voor het herkennen van de relatie tussen partnergeweld en (dreigend) verzuim op het werk, individuele begeleiding van slachtoffers en daders in relatie tot werk en advisering aan bedrijven over de aanpak van partnergeweld als oorzaak van (dreigend) verzuim.
