Samenvatting

Van de Nederlandse bevolking, die begin 2009 16,5 miljoen mensen telt, is bij bijna 400.000 personen (2,3%) in de afgelopen twintig jaar de diagnose kanker gesteld (KWF Kankerbestrijding, 2004). De meesten van hen zijn behandeld met chirurgie, radiotherapie of medicamenteuze therapie, veelal in combinatie. De helft van die patiënten (1,2%) is minder dan vijf jaar geleden behandeld en ondergaat nog steeds een vorm van nazorg c.q. nacontrole. Jaarlijks bezoeken ongeveer 200.000-300.000 mensen daarvoor een ziekenhuispolikliniek, met ongeveer 500.000 jaarlijkse oncologische arts-patiëntcontacten.
