Samenvatting

In dit hoofdstuk wordt de plaats van mindfulness binnen de fysiotherapie verhelderd. Zelfregulatie en zelfmanagement van de patiënt – belangrijk begrippen in de fysiotherapie – vragen om een adequaat aandachtsvermogen. Daarnaast is een milde zorgzame attitude nodig, evenals een gezonde leefstijl. Afleiding van dit gezondheidsvoornemen, door zintuiglijke indrukken, emoties of gedachten ondermijnt het herstel van de patiënt. De aandachtcapaciteit kan prima binnen het fysiotherapeutische domein van houding, beweging en ademhaling getraind worden. Mindfulness-based benaderingen hebben binnen de gezondheidszorg een evidence-based plaats verworven. Deze trend zet zich ook door binnen de fysiotherapie. Het is verstandig om conform de internationale ontwikkeling aan te sluiten bij de twee meest onderzochte en toegepaste benaderingen; daardoor blijft een herkenbare structuur en inhoud behouden. Mindful bewegen moet daarbij een centrale plaats hebben. De mindfulness-based benadering kan op verschillende manieren binnen de fysiotherapie geïntegreerd worden. Het spectrum verloopt van incidentele aansporingen binnen een één-op-één setting tot intensieve chronische-pijnprogramma’s, ondersteund door eHealth.
