Abstract

Klinische voeding is voeding voor zieke mensen, die niet via de gebruikelijke weg, maar op kunstmatige wijze wordt toegediend via een voedingssonde, voedingsfistel of via een directe toegang in de bloedbaan. Het doel is het stimuleren van het metabolisme door optimalere voedingsinname, waardoor complicaties van ziekte en behandeling worden beperkt of voorkomen.
Het vaststellen van de behoefte aan voedingsstoffen en de wijze van evaluatie worden besproken. De verschillende wegen voor toediening van klinische voeding komen aan de orde, evenals de complicaties die kunnen optreden.
In de andere hoofdstukken in het katern VI van de sectie Dieetleer wordt uitgebreid ingegaan op de verschillende voedingsmogelijkheden via de enterale weg en de parenterale weg (direct in de bloedbaan). Voor klinische voedingstherapie is een multidisciplinaire aanpak vereist; de rol van de diëtist wordt in dit hoofdstuk neergezet.
