Kinderen met astma en reflux

Samenvatting

In Nederland komt astma bij 10% van de kinderen voor. Gastro-oesofageale reflux (ger) is een van de factoren die astma zouden kunnen verergeren. Uit de literatuur blijkt dat bij tussen de 25 en 75% van de patiënten met astma ger geconstateerd kan worden. Over het algemeen wordt in Nederland weinig aandacht besteed aan deze mogelijke relatie en de mogelijke voordelen bij behandeling van ger. De behandeling van reflux bij patiënten met astma zou de astmaklachten kunnen verminderen. Deze behandeling is echter nog onvoldoende en weinig overtuigend onderzocht. In dit artikel wordt een overzicht gegeven van de behandelingsmogelijkheden van ger bij kinderen met astma.
