Het Humaan Genoom-Project & de werkplek: Blootstelling versus constitutie

Samenvatting

De opheldering van de sequentie van het humaan genoom zal belangrijke gevolgen hebben voor de geneeskunde, zowel in curatieve als in preventieve zin. Het testen op genetische aanleg of gevoeligheid voor ziekten vindt al veel ingang. Op het gebied van de arbeidsgeneeskunde staat deze Nieuwe Genetica echter nog in de kinderschoenen. Genetisch testen wordt zowel door werkgevers als werknemers( organisaties) resoluut afgewezen. Voor een belangrijk deel is dat terug te voeren op slechte ervaringen met genetisch testen in de Verenigde Staten in de jaren '80. Omdat vooruitgang in het testen op individuele gevoeligheid voor gevaarlijke stoffen zou kunnen leiden tot minder strenge eisen ten aanzien van blootstellingsnormen (bijvoorbeeld in de vorm van MAC-waarden), is het noodzakelijk een vinger aan de pols te houden.
