Bij dermatochalasis is de huid van het bovenooglid te ruim, hangt af of ligt op of over de wimpers.
Dermatochalasis moet onderscheiden worden van ptosis.
Naast cosmetische bezwaren kan dermatochalasis leiden tot een gezichtsveldbeperking.
Blefaroplastiek is een effectieve behandeling; nieuwere niet-chirurgische behandelingen hebben meestal tijdelijk effect.
