Gender en seksueel overdraagbare aandoeningen

Samenvatting

Mannen en vrouwen verschillen in seksueel gedrag. Ook als het gaat om seksueel overdraagbare aandoeningen (soa’s) zijn er opvallende sekseverschillen in vóórkomen, presentatie, diagnostiek en complicaties. Biologische, psychosociale en culturele factoren bepalen deze verschillen. De term ‘gender’ verwijst naar de biologische, sociale en culturele impact op soa’s bij mannen en vrouwen. Voor de huisarts is het van belang de voor mannen en vrouwen verschillende factoren na te gaan die bijdragen aan seksueel risicogedrag. Een huisarts die zich bewust is van en rekening houdt met genderaspecten en genderverschillen zal zijn patiënten in de dagelijkse medische praktijk beter kunnen helpen en soa’s beter kunnen voorkómen, opsporen en behandelen.
