Fysieke training bij depressie

Samenvatting

Volgens de Nederlandse multidisciplinaire richtlijn Depressie is er van fysieke training een gunstig effect op de stemming te verwachten (met een bewijskracht van niveau 2) en wordt aangeraden om depressieve patiënten vanaf de eerste fase van de behandeling fysieke training te laten verrichten. Onder fysieke training worden alle vormen van sporten verstaan. Fysiek trainen heeft vele gezondheidsbevorderende effecten1) en zou daarom een belangrijk onderdeel van een depressieprogramma kunnen zijn. Toch wordt fysieke training als behandelvorm voor depressies niet vaak voorgeschreven. Meer kennis over de effectiviteit en werking van fysiek trainen zou mogelijk de toepassing ervan kunnen verbeteren.
