Samenvatting

Het aantal publicaties over de farmacologische werking van MDMA (xtc ofwel ecstasy) neemt snel toe, maar de klinische betekenis van dierexperimenteel onderzoek is gering, vooral ook doordat betrouwbare gegevens van humaan onderzoek nauwelijks voorhanden zijn. Onderzoeksuitkomsten verkregen uit onderzoek aan muizen en ratten kan niet direct vertaald worden naar mensen, te meer daar tussenproducten van de metabole omzetting van MDMA, die ook farmacologisch actief zijn, verschillen tussen mens en dier.
