Samenvatting

Dit hoofdstuk richt zich met name op de methodologie van diagnostisch onderzoek. Het beschrijft de verschillende fasen van onderzoek, de reproduceerbaarheid en validiteit van diagnostisch onderzoek. Begrippen zoals inter- en intrawaarnemervariatie, Cohen’s kappa, sensitiviteit, specificiteit, predictieve waarde, ROC-curve en de likelihood ratio worden nader toegelicht. De theorie van Bayes komt aan bod, waarna wordt afgesloten met de diagnostische odds ratio. Het hoofdstuk gaat vervolgens in op het effect van parallelle of in serie geschakelde tests. Aan het einde van het hoofdstuk wordt kort ingegaan op prognostisch onderzoek en predictiemodellen.
