Diabetische retinopathie

Samenvatting

Diabetische retinopathie is een ziekte van de kleine bloedvaten in het netvlies van patiënten met diabetes mellitus waarbij vaatwandlekkage en nieuwvorming van vaten de functie van het oog en daarmee het gezichtsvermogen bedreigen. De hoofdbehandelaar (huisarts, kinderarts, internist) en de patiënt zijn verantwoordelijk voor de screening, die kan plaatsvinden door middel van fundusfotografie of door indirecte funduscopie en biomicroscopie door de oogarts. De behandeling van diabetische retinopathie kan, afhankelijk van het stadium, bestaan uit panretinale, focale of gridlasercoagulatie, of uit een glasvochtoperatie (vitrectomie). Een goede glykemische instelling en een optimale bloeddruk zijn van belang om het ontstaan of de progressie van diabetische retinopathie te verminderen.
