Applied Behavior Analysis: het ABC van ABA

Samenvatting

Gedragsinterventies staan internationaal volop in de belangstelling en worden ook door de Nederlandse Gezondheidsraad beschouwd als ‘het best bewezen effectief’ in de behandeling van mensen met een Autisme Spectrum Stoornis (ASS). Deze gedragsinterventies zijn gebaseerd op de wetenschappelijke discipline van Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). ABA ligt ten grondslag aan veel effectieve interventies voor mensen met een ontwikkelingsstoornis. In vergelijking met Noord-Amerika wordt in Europa (ook in Nederland) slechts beperkt gebruik gemaakt van dit type interventies. Dit artikel biedt een kennismaking met ABA. De uitgangspunten en werkzame onderdelen worden concreet beschreven en de praktische toepassing ervan wordt toegelicht met een casus.
