Inleiding

Plastisch chirurgische ingrepen worden op grote schaal verricht in Nederland, vanwege een scala aan indicaties. Zo doet de plastisch chirurg reconstructies na grote (mutilerende) oncologische ingrepen of na een beschadiging na een ongeval, maar er worden veel meer kleinere (cosmetisch) plastisch chirurgische ingrepen gedaan, op verzoek van de patiënt om er beter uit te zien. Vaak betreft het ingrepen aan de (zichtbare) buitenzijde van het lichaam, maar soms meer verborgen zoals in de mondholte of in de genitale regio.
