Samenvatting

De goede gezondheidszorg van de laatste decennia wordt nog steeds verzilverd: we worden met meer mensen alsmaar ouder. Dankzij deze verzilvering zal nog decennia een toenemend beroep worden gedaan op zorginstellingen als het ziekenhuis. In 2004 werd 12 procent van de 65-plussers en 6 procent van de personen jonger dan 65 jaar opgenomen in het ziekenhuis; de gemiddelde ligduur voor patiënten van 65 jaar en ouder was 12,6 dagen en die voor degenen jonger dan 65 jaar 6,4 dagen.
