Aandacht voor visuele inattentie. De Balloons Test in de psychogeriatrie

Samenvatting

DeBalloons Test (BT) wordt gebruikt om visuele inattentie aan het licht te brengen. De BT bestaat uit twee onderdelen. Subtest A doet een beroep op parallelle, automatische detectie van twintig ballonfiguren tussen een groot aantal cirkels. In subtest B moeten twintig cirkels tussen ballonfiguren gevonden worden via een serieel, strategisch zoekproces. Onder 191 achtereenvolgende deelnemers aan een psychogeriatrische dagbehandeling (gemiddelde leeftijd 78 jaar) werd bij 28,2% een afwijkend resultaat bij serieel zoeken gevonden, indicatief voor visuele inattentie.

De waarschijnlijkheid van visuele inattentie nam toe bij deficiënties op andere visueel-ruimtelijke waarnemingstests (klokkijken, themaplaten beschrijven en overlappende figuren onderscheiden), visueel-constructieve tests, of tests voor uitvoerende mentale controle. In een multivariate logistische regressieanalyse resteerden uiteindelijk twee tests (klokkijken en themaplaten beschrijven) als onafhankelijke voorspellers van visuele inattentie. Slechts drie deelnemers (1,6%) konden deBalloons Test niet uitvoeren. De resultaten van dit onderzoek ondersteunen de toepasbaarheid van deBalloons Test voor onderzoek van visuele aandachtsstoornissen in een psychogeriatrische doelgroep.
