Samenvatting

De vraag wat er moet worden verstaan onder somatisatie is niet eenvoudig te beantwoorden, aangezien er verschillende definities van en visies op het verschijnsel somatiseren zijn. In het Van Dale groot woordenboek der Nederlandse taal (Geerts & Heestermans, 2010) komt ‘somatisatie’ niet voor. Wel ‘somatisering’, dat wordt omschreven als het lichamelijk uiten van psychische klachten. Voor velen zal deze omschrijving te ongenuanceerd zijn en tevens de vraag oproepen in hoeverre psychische klachten noodzakelijk zijn bij somatisering.
