Samenvatting

Endocarditis is een ernstig ziektebeeld met een hoge mortaliteit. Bij de diagnostiek speelt echocardiografie weliswaar een belangrijke rol, maar slechts in de context van klinische en bacteriologische gegevens. In dit hoofdstuk zal ingegaan worden op de echografische kenmerken van bacteriële endocarditis en het gebruik van echocardiografie bij het begeleiden van de patiënt met endocarditis.
