Samenvatting

De klep tussen LA en LV is de mitralisklep. De klep dankt zijn naam aan Vesalius, die deze naam in 1543 voor het eerst gebruikte, omdat hij vond dat de klep in geopende toestand gelijkenis vertoonde met een bisschopsmijter. Als de mitralisklep tijdens diastole geopend is, kan het bloed ongehinderd van LA naar LV stromen, terwijl tijdens systole de gesloten klep ervoor zorgt dat er geen bloed kan terugstromen van LV naar LA. De mitralisklep bestaat niet alleen uit de beide klepbladen, maar is een complexe functionele eenheid die bestaat uit LA, mitralisannulus, klepbladen, chordae tendineae, papillairspieren en LV-wand die in harmonie met elkaar samenwerken (fig. 12.1). Deze functionele eenheid noemen we het mitralisklepapparaat. Alle zes genoemde onderdelen van het mitralisklepapparaat worden in dit hoofdstuk achtereenvolgens besproken.
