Samenvatting

De gedragstherapeutische aanpak van probleemgedrag bij kinderen en jongeren op basis van wat men wel de leerprincipes noemt, kent een lange geschiedenis. Deze is in de loop van de tijd door kinderpsychologen en pedagogen van uiteenlopende signatuur beschreven en toegepast. In Emile van Jean-Jacques Rousseau (1762), een schrijver die men nu niet direct met de gedragstherapie associeert, treft men daarvan sprekende voorbeelden aan, zoals de nadruk die Rousseau legt op het principe: leren door te doen.

In het vervolg spreken wij kortweg van kindergedragstherapie of gedragstherapie bij kinderen. Het betreft dan in het algemeen steeds kinderen tussen de 0 en 18 jaar, tenzij nader gespecificeerd.
