De rol van genetische factoren en ernstige gebeurtenissen op het ontstaan van angst en depressie

Abstract

In welke mate variaties in angst en depressie in de Nederlandse populatie worden verklaard door genetische aanleg en het meemaken van ernstige gebeurtenissen, is onderzocht in de Netherlands Twin- family Study on Anxious Depression (netsad). Uit genetisch onderzoek blijkt dat het zinnig kan zijn om persoonlijkheidstrekken (zoals neuroticisme en extraversie) te analyseren in plaats van te diagnosticeren aan de hand van de dsm. Ook lijken er nauwelijks verschillen te bestaan tussen mannen en vrouwen met betrekking tot de invloed van genen op angst en depressie. Tot slot zijn geen associaties met neuroticisme, angst of depressie gevonden bij het verklaren van erfelijkheid door het serotonine transporter gen lengte polymorfisme (sert/5-httlpr).
