Bloeddrukmeting: technieken en methoden

Samenvatting

Onze kennis omtrent beloop en risico van hoge bloeddruk is afkomstig van conventionele metingen met behulp van een kwikkolom. Kwik is echter sinds kort om milieuredenen verboden in Nederland. Het alternatief daarvoor is de veermanometer. Spreekuurmetingen geven echter niet altijd goede informatie over het beloop van de bloeddruk over langere tijd. Twee methoden zijn daarvoor wel geschikt: de ambulante meting en de meting door de patiënt zelf, thuis. Vooral de laatste methode is goed bruikbaar in de huisartsenpraktijk.
