Care after Ischaemic stroke

Stroke survivors are at substantially increased risk of developing deep vein thrombosis (DVT) because they are immobile and often dehydrated. Neither knee-nor thigh-length stockings reduce the risk and knee-length stockings are considered, in this review, to be associated with increased incidence of DVT.
