Zorg voor gevluchte kinderen

Samenvatting

Gevluchte kinderen vormen in de gezondheidszorg een risicogroep door hun traumatische ervaringen voor en na de gedwongen migratie. Naast importziekten en genetische aandoeningen kunnen zij vooral vele (posttraumatische) spanningsreacties vertonen. Vaak blijken gevluchte kinderen over dusdanige veerkracht te beschikken dat zij deze psychische, gedrags- en ontwikkelingsproblemen te boven komen. De mate waarin ouders en sociale omgeving de kinderen bescherming en steun bieden, is daarop van invloed. Om ziekte te voorkomen en de gezondheid van gevluchte kinderen te bevorderen, zullen risicofactoren na de migratie zo veel mogelijk moeten worden gereduceerd en beschermende factoren op het niveau van het kind, het gezin en de omgeving worden versterkt. Daarmee wordt de veerkracht van de kinderen vergroot.
