America’s history has been undoubtedly tough and as a country, it has gone through severe highs and lows not only regarding policy but also regarding the welfare of the citizens that reside inside the border. Coming of Age in the Other America was written by three renowned sociologists regarding the difficulties and disadvantages children suffered while growing up in low-income, high crime areas such as inner city Baltimore. Specifically, these scientists followed the paths of 150 impoverished children over key years of their adolescent stages to show us how extreme passion and motivation can break the cycle and “get off the streets,” while on the other hand, how easy it is for children to become trapped by all the set-backs and fall short of their potential. …
