Kernpunten

  • De persoon met dementie dient gezien te worden in de context van zijn sociale achtergrond en omgeving.
  • De psychologische en gedragsmatige symptomen bij dementie vormen een belangrijk aangrijpingspunt voor het brede aanbod aan beschikbare psychosociale interventies.
  • De keuze voor een interventie dient optimaal afgestemd te worden op de kenmerken, behoeften en competenties van de patiënt en/of de mantelzorger en samen met hen te worden gemaakt.
  • Het onderzoek naar de effecten van psychosociale interventies laat overwegend een gunstige invloed zien op vooral het probleemgedrag van de persoon met dementie en het functioneren van de mantelzorger.
  • Er is meer gedegen onderzoek nodig op het gebied van psychosociale interventies bij dementie, waarbij er tevens een vertaalslag dient plaats te vinden naar richtlijnen voor implementatie in de praktijk.
