Astma en allergie

Samenvatting

Astma is een chronische ziekte van de longen. Pathofysiologisch is een chronische eosinofiele bronchitis de basis voor de klinische verschijnselen. In deze bijdrage leest u over de rol van allergie bij het ontstaan en in stand houden van deze chronische bronchitis. In het tweede deel van deze bijdrage wordt ingegaan op het effect dat de meest voorkomende behandelingen gericht tegen allergie op het beloop van astma hebben. Het effect van veel van de huidige behandelingen is nog beperkt, maar er zijn enkele recente ontwikkelingen die op termijn waardevol zouden kunnen zijn.
