Samenvatting

Zuurstof is van levensbelang voor de foetus om een aerobe verbranding te waarborgen. De zuurstofspanning in de foetale omgeving is echter laag in vergelijking met na de geboorte. Toch wordt de foetus, dankzij enige aanpassingen door de evolutie, adequaat geoxygeneerd.
