11. Ziekte van Parkinson

Samenvatting

De ziekte van Parkinson is het meest voorkomende hypokinetisch-rigide syndroom. Daarnaast zijn er atypische parkinsonismen die zich onderscheiden door vooral een progressiever beloop, een slechtere respons op antiparkinsonmedicatie en het sneller optreden van balans- en cognitieve stoornissen. Naast de kenmerkende motorische stoornissen, zoals bradykinesie, rigiditeit en tremor, zijn er veel niet-motorische stoornissen. Het geleidelijk beloop en de vele stoornissen maken dat mensen met de ziekte van Parkinson langdurig multidisciplinaire zorg behoeven. Vanwege het heterogene beeld, heeft zorg van deskundige zorgverleners die veel patiënten zien de voorkeur. Fysiotherapeuten spelen een belangrijke rol in deze multidisciplinaire behandeling. Zij geven voorlichting aan patiënten, functietraining in de vorm van zelfstandige beweegprogramma’s of participatie aan sport en geven vaardigheids- of compensatietraining.
