Wie kiest er voor PAS?

Samenvatting

Inleiding

Met het programma Persoonlijk Advies bij het Stoppen met roken (PAS) kun je je patiënten goed helpen bij stoppen met roken: PAS is bewezen (kosten-) effectief. Toch gebruikten praktijkondersteuners dit onlineadvies-op-maatprogramma vaak niet, en het was onduidelijk waarom. Daarom hebben we twee kleinschalige onderzoeken gedaan om redenen van adoptie (start gebruik PAS, n = 139) en implementatie (blijvend gebruik PAS, n = 56) van PAS onder praktijkondersteuners te achterhalen.

Methoden

In beide onderzoeken vroegen we praktijkondersteuners en nurse practitioners om onlinevragenlijsten in te vullen met vijf onderdelen: (1) persoonlijke kenmerken, (2) kenmerken van de huisartsenpraktijk, (3) voor- en nadelen van het gebruik van PAS (attitude), (4) de mening (norm) en acties (ondersteuning) van collega’s en patiënten (samen sociale invloed) en (5) geloof in eigen kunnen om PAS te gebruiken (eigen-effectiviteit).

Resultaten

Slechts een minderheid van deelnemers (38-39%) wilde PAS adopteren of implementeren. Praktijkondersteuners die positiever over PAS dachten en door anderen gesteund werden om PAS te gebruiken, kozen vaker voor adoptie en implementatie van PAS.

Beschouwing

De adoptie en implementatie van PAS zijn nog niet optimaal. Om te zorgen dat praktijkondersteuners PAS op grotere schaal gaan gebruiken, lijkt het in elk geval nodig om hen te laten zien welke positieve ervaringen en resultaten andere praktijkondersteuners hebben behaald, en ook dat patiënten uit hun eigen praktijk daadwerkelijk geïnteresseerd zijn in PAS.
