Werken met de mogelijkheden van cliënten en gezinnen met behulp van kernkwadranten en genogrammen

Abstract

Van nature hebben wij geen zwakheid die zich niet tot kracht zou kunnen ontwikkelen.

Net als bij andere therapeutische richtingen is er ook in de systeemtheorie een toenemende belangstelling voor de ontplooiing en ontwikkeling van de mogelijkheden van individuen en systemen. Toch bestaan er slechts weinig instrumenten of modellen die de specifieke mogelijkheden en sterktes van personen of systemen in kaart brengen. In het domein van de organisatiepsychologie is men hier wel uitdrukkelijk mee bezig. Een model uit de organisatiepsychologie dat sterk de nadruk legt op groeimogelijkheden is het ‘kernkwadrantenmodel’ van Ofman, een model dat met enige aanpassingen ook goed bruikbaar is in zowel individuele, groeps- als gezinstherapie. Het doel van dit artikel is om aan de hand van een klinisch voorbeeld de toepassingsmogelijkheden van dit model in een systeemtherapeutische context weer te geven. Dit model brengt mogelijkheden, sterktes en zwakkere punten van personen in kaart en het biedt ook heel wat therapeutische toepassingsmogelijkheden. In combinatie met een genogram is het kernkwadrantenmodel uitstekend geschikt om de mogelijkheden en moeilijkheden van gezinsleden uit hun eigen levens- of familiegeschiedenis, een plaats te geven. Ook de therapeutische aanwending van deze mogelijkheden voor verdere groei en ontplooiing van zowel het individu als het gezin wordt in dit artikel verder uitgewerkt. Mogelijkheden en beperkingen van het model worden verder toegelicht in de discussie.
