Abstract

In de residentiële jeugdhulpverlening hebben jongeren klachtrecht. Om te onderzoeken of zij psychologisch tot gebruikmaken daarvan in staat zijn, werden 52 jongens en 15 meisjes geïnterviewd. De meesten bleken handelingen die hun lichamelijke en geestelijke integriteit zouden aantasten als klachtwaardig aan te merken. Bovendien bleek de wijze waarop veertien jongeren tegen een daadwerkelijk fysiek conflict met de groepsleiding aankeken, samen te hangen met hun leeftijd. De stadiatheorie van Selman bleek te grofmazig voor een goede interpretatie van de interviews. Sommige respondenten lieten, al voordat zij het wederkerige stadium bereikten, vormen van wederkerigheid in hun antwoorden zien. Dit resultaat wordt vanuit een Vygotskiaans gezichtspunt besproken.
