Samenvatting

Motoriek en sensoriek zijn onlosmakelijk verbonden. Enerzijds kan de zintuiglijke waarneming handelen uitlokken, anderzijds leidt ieder handelen tot (verandering van) zintuiglijke waarneming. Per vaardigheid (tennissen, vioolspelen, etc.) is sprake van specifieke sensomotorische kringen. Verlies van zintuiglijke informatie (doofheid, blindheid, anesthesie, etc.) heeft daarom implicaties voor motorische vaardigheden. Ook in de hersenen is de koppeling tussen actie en perceptie duidelijk aanwezig. Hersenscans tonen dat bij menselijk handelen vrijwel altijd ook sensorische gebieden geactiveerd zijn. Via een spiegelneuronensysteem kunnen we een waargenomen handeling (demonstratie) direct omzetten in een handeling (imitatie). Er blijken verschillende neurale perceptiesystemen te bestaan voor herkenning, lokalisatie en actie (het ‘wat’-, ‘waar’- en ‘hoe’-systeem). Het ‘hoe’-systeem vormt een directe link tussen waarneming en handeling.
