Vroeg risico voor ADHD: aandacht, toestandregulatie en dagelijks gedrag

Abstract

Men kan het thema ‘vroeg risico voor adhd’ op verschillende verklarings niveaus aan de orde stellen. Van sociale instituties (het gezin, de buurt, gezondheidsvoorzieningen) en relatie- en interactie processen (kind-ouder, ouders onderling) tot functionele en structurele kenmerken van het zenuwstelsel (zie het schema ontleend aan Rose in Kalverboer, 1996, p.23). Alle bieden hun eigen verklaringsmogelijkheden.
In deze bijdrage ligt de nadruk op het niveau van (neuro-)psychologische basisfuncties, in het bijzonder op vroege aandachtsprocessen en toestandregulatie. Betoogd wordt dat longitudinaal onderzoek naar deze processen over een groter leeftijdsbereik (eventueel tot na de adolescentie) kan bijdragen aan een meer fundamenteel inzicht in de adhd-problematiek. Voorwaarde is echter dat in samenhang hiermee ook het gedrag in de dagelijkse situatie grondig in kaart wordt gebracht.
