Voorspellers van Alzheimer-type dementie bij patiënten met lichte cognitieve soortnissen

Abstract

Ongeveer 40% van de oudere patiënten die verwezen worden naar de tweede lijn voor de evaluatie van cognitieve stoornissen is niet dement en heeft slechts lichte cognitieve stoornissen. Ongeveer eenderde van deze patiënten zal echter binnen enkele jaren een dementiesyndroom ontwikkelen. Meestal krijgen deze patiënten dan Alzheimer-type dementie. Het is belangrijk om te voorspellen welke patiënten met lichte cognitieve stoornissen Alzheimer-type dementie gaan krijgen, omdat ze mogelijk baat hebben bij therapeutische interventies. Verder is het voor de patiënten en verzorgers belangrijk om inzicht te krijgen in de aard van de cognitieve klachten en informatie te krijgen over het te verwachten beloop ervan. Hierdoor kunnen angst en onzekerheid verminderd worden en kan op de toekomst geanticipeerd worden. In dit artikel zullen we eerst de definities van lichte cognitieve stoornissen bespreken, daarna het beloop van lichte cognitieve stoornissen, en ten slotte welke variabelen dit beloopkunnen voorspellen.
