Samenvatting

Met het toenemen van de leeftijd treden verschillende veranderingen in de voeten op. Zo verliezen de gewrichtskapsels en de synoviale membranen hun soepelheid, treedt artrotische degeneratie op en vermindert de beweeglijkheid van de voetgewrichten. Al deze veranderingen kunnen pijn veroorzaken. Er is maar weinig wetenschappelijk onderzoek verricht naar de effectiviteit van de behandeling met schoenaanpassingen. De behandeladviezen zijn dan ook vooral gebaseerd op praktische ervaringen. Natuurlijk moet men zich afvragen of fysiotherapeutische behandelingen effectief kunnen zijn. De meeste aandoeningen die hier beschreven worden gaan met deformiteiten gepaard. In die gevallen is fysiotherapeutische behandeling niet zinvol.
