Samenvatting

De medische en technologische vooruitgang van de laatste jaren heeft tot gevolg dat veel baby's en jonge kinderen overleven die voordien niet in leven konden gehouden worden. Daardoor stijgt het aantal kinderen dat prematuur geboren wordt met een te laag geboortegewicht en worden ouders en artsen geconfronteerd met een aantal problemen, zoals die met de voeding. Er zijn dus nieuwe strategieën nodig om zulke problemen die vroeger niet bestonden, te herkennen en te behandelen. De logopedische problemen hierbij zijn oraal–motorisch van aard, ze betreffen de sensorische waarneming, voedselopname en voedselverwerking (Arvedson e.a., 1993).
