Abstract

In dit hoofdstuk wordt de fysiologie van de slokdarm beschreven en wordt uitgebreid ingegaan op de etiologie en de gevolgen van oesofageale reflux. Met betrekking tot het slokdarmcarcinoom, waarbij een onderscheid wordt gemaakt in het plaveiselcarcinoom en het adenocarcinoom, komen etiologie, vroege en late klachten aan bod. Ook de voedingsgerelateerde klachten in de postoperatieve fase evenals palliatieve adviezen met betrekking tot voeding worden beschreven. Het hoofdstuk wordt afgesloten met de beschrijving van mogelijk minder bekende en minder frequent voorkomende aandoeningen van de slokdarm zoals achalasie en het Zenker’s divertikel. De voedingsproblemen bij deze aandoeningen kunnen echter dermate ernstig en evident zijn, dat de diëtist bij de behandeling betrokken wordt.
