Vitamine B12 en cognitieve stoornissen bij ouderen

Abstract

Dementie is een ziekte van de oude mens. Het percentage van voorkomen loopt op van 1% bij 65-jarigen tot ruim 40% bij mensen van 90 jaar en ouder. De ziekte van Alzheimer, vasculaire dementie en dementie bij de ziekte van Parkinson zijn de meest voorkomende vormen van dementie. Slechts een klein percentage van de dementiesyndromen is potentieel reversibel met een prevalentie van ongeveer 13% (Clarfield, 1988).
