Samenvatting

Kernpunten
  • Vergeetachtigheid bij ouderen komt veel voor en is een normaal fysiologisch proces van de ouder wordende hersenen.
  • In de meeste gevallen is vergeetachtigheid geen uiting van een onderliggende neurocognitieve ziekte, maar wel een licht verhoogd risico op het ontwikkelen van dementie.
  • Screeningstests, zoals de MMSE, kloktekentest, MoCA en RUDAS kunnen helpen om onderscheid te maken tussen vergeetachtigheid ten gevolge van een normaal fysiologisch proces en een neurocognitieve ziekte.
  • De huisarts geeft voorlichting aan patiënten en naasten die zich presenteren met vergeetachtigheid. Hierbij dient aandacht te zijn voor zorgen en angsten.
  • De heteroanamnese is van belang om de ernst van de klachten in te schatten.
