Inleiding

De centrale vraag voor de medische ethiek is telkens: wat is ethisch verantwoord medisch handelen? Zoals in H. 1 is besproken, kan deze vraag worden opgevat als descriptief of normatief. Als vraag van de descriptieve ethiek kan ze worden beantwoord door nauwkeurig studie te maken van de morele opvattingen van artsen of van de normen en waarden zoals die in de dagelijkse zorgpraktijk worden gehanteerd. Een dergelijke praktijkbeschrijving is noodzakelijk om te weten waarover we het hebben: wat wordt feitelijk verstaan onder goed handelen in de geneeskunde?
