Samenvatting

Zelfstandig kunnen opstaan uit een stoel is een voorwaarde om zelfstandig te kunnen wonen. Er zijn twee strategieën voor het opstaan: een snelle (impulsstrategie) en een langzame (flexiestrategie). Het verlies van spierkracht op hogere leeftijd (sarcopenie) en het verlies van de flexiemogelijkheid van heup en wervelkolom zijn twee belangrijke hinderpalen bij het tot stand komen uit een stoel. Als hulpmiddel wordt voorgesteld een hoge stoel met een zadelvormige zitting, uitgerust met rug- en armleuningen en vaste pootjes.
