Van DSM IV-TR naar DSM-5: middelengebruik en gedragsverslavingen

Samenvatting

Met ingang van 1 januari 2017 zal in de GGZ de DSM-5 gebruikt worden voor diagnostiek en classificatie, als opvolger van de DSM-IV-TR. In dit artikel worden de belangrijkste wijzigingen besproken die dit met zich meebrengt aangaande verslavingsproblematiek. Met name de samenvoeging van middelenafhankelijkheid en middelenmisbruik tot een nieuwe ‘stoornis in het gebruik van een middel’ passeert de revue. Ook andere wijzigingen wat betreft specificaties bij de verschillende stoornissen in het gebruik van een middel en de rubricering van stoornissen door het gebruik van een middel komen aan de orde, evenals de problemen rond de classificatie van gedragsverslaving. De conclusie is dat er met de komst van de DSM-5 sprake is van vooruitgang, maar dat verdere verbeteringen mogelijk zijn.
