Over het opnemen van suïcidale adolescenten met borderline persoo nlijkheidsproblematiek

Bij adolescenten met (kenmerken van) een borderline persoonlijkheidsstoornis (BPS ) zijn suïcidedreigingen, automutilatie en suïcidepogingen vaak aan de orde, maar de kans op een daadwerkelijke suïcide blijkt relatief klein. Gepleit wordt voor een terughoudend opnamebeleid bij een suïcidale crisis bij deze jongeren. De kern van dit beleid is: continuïteit in de behandeling, suïcidale dreiging zo weinig mogelijk belonen, en met kalmte vasthouden aan de therapeutische kerninterventies, namelijk aanleidingen en functie van het gedrag onderzoeken, nieuwe coping aanleren en ouders en jongeren begeleiden en zo nodig coachen in de crisis.
