Samenvatting

Het niercelcarcinoom betreft 2–3 % van alle maligniteiten. In 2011 werd het niercelcarcinoom bij 14,12 per 100.000 mannen vastgesteld en bij 6,51 per 100.000 vrouwen; dat wil zeggen bij 2.174 mensen (10,32 per 100.000). De topincidentie ligt tussen 60 en 80 jaar. Door de toenemende vergrijzing zal het aantal nieuwe patiënten in de komende jaren naar verwachting stijgen, ook de prevalentie zal naar verwachting toenemen, van ruim 10.000 in 2012 naar ruim 18.000 in 2020. Jaarlijks overlijden ruim 900 personen aan de gevolgen van niercelcarcinoom.
