Samenvatting

Longkanker is een van de meest fatale vormen van kanker in de wereld, vanwege de hoge incidentie en mortaliteit. Wereldwijd is longkanker het meest voorkomende type van de solide tumoren met roken als belangrijkste oorzakelijke factor. De vijfjaarsoverleving van longkanker in Nederland is in de afgelopen jaren gestegen van ruim 14 naar 17 %. Dit wordt onder andere veroorzaakt door de invoering van nieuwe diagnostische technieken, waardoor betere stadiëring mogelijk is met een hierop afgestemde behandeling. Maar ook de invoering van nieuwe behandelmethoden heeft geleid tot een betere prognose van de longkankerpatiënt.
