Samenvatting

Een vijftienjarige jongen raakt tijdens een voetbalwedstrijd met zijn voet de doelpaal. De pijn is dusdanig dat hij de tweede helft van de wedstrijd niet meer kan spelen. Na drie dagen wordt de voet onderzocht en constateert de fysiotherapeut een traumatische artritis van het metatarsofalangeale I-gewricht. Maanden later blijkt dat er ook sprake is van een fractuur van een sesambeentje. Het hoofdstuk beschrijft de casus, symptomen, onderzoek, beeldvorming en de behandeling. In de bespreking wordt dieper ingegaan op de functie, anatomie en pathologie van de sesambeentjes in de voet.

In zeldzame gevallen ontbreekt het mediale en in zeer zeldzame gevallen ontbreekt het laterale sesambeentje [1].
