Samenvatting

Een keuze voor een therapeutische techniek voor de aanpak van mondademen wordt vooral bepaald door de patiëntkenmerken (ernst–complexiteit, leeftijd, interesse, motivatie, aandacht–concentratie) en door de opleiding en de persoonlijke voorkeur van de therapeut. Er wordt zowel met hulpmiddelen als met oefentherapie gewerkt. Het gaat dan om oral screens, lippleisters en neusverwijdende middelen. Een oral screen is een mondscherm dat in het vestibulum oris, de ruimte tussen de lippen en de tanden, geplaatst wordt. De lippleisters en neusstrips worden gebruikt om de oefeninspanningen van de dag niet verloren te laten gaan tijdens de nacht (Garliner, 1974; Owman–Moll & Ingervall, 1984; Idema & Damsté, 1994; Petruson & Theman, 1996).
