Samenvatting

Therapeutisch Psychologisch Onderzoek (TPO) is een semigestructureerd model van psychodiagnostiek dat is ontwikkeld door Stephen Finn. Het is een vorm van psychodiagnostisch onderzoek van, met en voor de cliënt. Het doel van TPO is om antwoorden te geven op de vragen van de client en zijn context en daarmee een nieuw verklaringsmodel te ontwikkelen samen met de cliënt. TPO verschilt van reguliere psychodiagnostische methoden doordat het de nadruk legt op samen onderzoeken, een “not knowing”-attitude en het continu proberen te begrijpen van de cliënt. De basishouding van de onderzoeker kenmerkt zich door nieuwsgierigheid, bescheidenheid, en empathie. TPO bevordert zo de zelfeffectiviteit en het epistemisch vertrouwen bij cliënten, wat de zelfontdekking vergemakkelijkt en zelfvalidatie bevordert. Aan de hand van een casus wordt het gebruik van de multimethodische aanpak beschreven. Hierbij worden zelfrapportage-instrumenten gecombineerd met indirecte metingen om zo antwoorden te verschaffen op de vragen van deze cliënt en haar verwijzer.
